York University Partnership
The York Region Football Association is proud to be the only football club in York Region with a University partnership. Thanks to Past President Dave Lovegrove and Warren Craney - who came together in 2016 to build a partnership and rebrand the York Simcoe Bucs - Lions are able to access additional resources through the University. Together with York University we are promoting football as a pathway to post-secondary, and to date are proud to share that over 33 of our alumni are playing football in the CIS/OUA.
Benefits of the Lions Partnership:
- CIS level coaching (York University Varsity Football coaches our Spring varsity program, players coach our Winter Academy)
- Coaching development
- Resources (York University Varsity Football jerseys for senior teams, access to branded swag + suppliers)
- Football expertise (access to Football Canada board members)
- Pathways (York University volunteers work with our players to build post-secondary pathways)
- Volunteers (York University varsity football players run a free camp annually for youth aged 5-9)
- Facilities (YRFA accesses a free stadium annually for Spring training camp)
